ISLAMABAD: The 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan has been successfully completed, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital infrastructure, announced Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication. The auction, which was conducted transparently, is set to generate $510 million and involves the allocation of 480 megahertz of spectrum.
According to Radio Pakistan, the announcement was made during a news conference held in Islamabad, where the Minister was accompanied by PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman and representatives from the telecom sector. Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that this development is a crucial step toward Pakistan’s transformation into a digital nation, with a pilot project for 5G services planned for major cities in the coming weeks. She noted that full-fledged services are expected to be operational in the federal and all provincial capitals within six to eight months. The Minister also underscored the auction’s design, which aims to safeguard the interests of both the industry and consumers.
