21st meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives held

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):21st meeting of the Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives was held today at 11:00 a.m. in the Committee Room of Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, P- Block, Pak Secretariat, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Junaid Akbar, MNA. The meeting started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Afterwards, the Committee proceeded with the agenda of the meeting.

The Committee confirmed minutes of its 19th and 20th meetings that were held on 7th October 2021 and 8th December, 2021 respectively. The representatives from Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives gave a detailed briefing on the previous recommendations of the Committee and gave its progress report on various issues. The Committee also took the Public Private Partnership Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2022 on its agenda.

The said Bill along with the amendments proposed by Mr. Imran Khattak, MNA was supported and recommended to be passed by the majority vote of the Committee. The Committee also directed the Ministry to give a detailed briefing on its Budgetary Proposals relating to the Public Sector Development Programs (PSDP) for the Financial Year 2022-23 in the next meeting for scrutiny as required by the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.

The Committee was also informed regarding the progress on the land acquisition process of Swat Motorway (Phase-II) and the Committee recommended inclusion of the adjoining areas of the region for their connectivity. The representatives from the Ministry of Railways gave a presentation on plans of Up-gradation of Pakistan Railways existing Main Line (ML-1).

The Committee also called representatives from the Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to give a progress report on the project of Khyber Institute of Child and Children Hospital, Peshawar. The Committee showed its concern on slow pace of the project and recommended to speed-up the same on war-footing in coordination with the relevant departments.
