Islamabad: In a recent survey, 20% of Pakistanis reported being chased by a dog at some point, with a higher prevalence among urban residents and men. The findings underscore a notable public safety concern in urban areas.

According to Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the survey revealed that one in five Pakistanis have had to run for safety due to an encounter with a dog. The survey, which sampled 780 adults nationwide, showed that 25% of urban residents and 23% of men reported such incidents. Meanwhile, 76% of respondents stated they had not experienced this, and 4% were uncertain.

The survey highlights the need for increased public safety measures and awareness, particularly in cities where such incidents are more common. Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the local affiliate of Gallup International, conducted the study using telephonic surveys between January 15 and February 3, 2026. The results carry a margin of error of ± 2-3% at a 95% confidence level.
