Chennai: 150 families in Kattukollai village, Vellore district, Tamil Nadu, have received eviction notices alleging they are occupying Waqf property, despite holding valid documentation for their land. These families have lived in the village for four generations.
The affected residents have sought the urgent intervention of the Vellore District Collector. This development follows the recent passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in both houses of the Indian Parliament. The bill aims to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of Waqf properties.
The eviction notices were issued by the Waqf Board of a local dargah, which is no longer managed by the village’s Muslim community. The families are now awaiting a resolution to this dispute.
