Jammu, Muhammad Yasin Malik, the Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, who is currently detained in New Delhi’s Tihar jail, appeared via video-link before a TADA court in Jammu. He is facing charges in cases that date back over three decades.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Malik, who was sentenced to life imprisonment last year by a special court of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a separate case, is involved in cases related to the 1989 abduction of Rubaiya Saeed, sister of Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti, and the 1990 killing of four Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel.
Alongside Malik, another Hurriyat leader, Muhammad Rafiq Nannaji, who is currently detained in Srinagar Central Jail, also appeared before the TADA court through video-conferencing. These cases have been long-standing and are part of a series of legal proceedings involving Malik.
The TADA court has scheduled the next hearing for the case concerning the killing of the IAF personnel on January 18, 2024, while the hearing for the Rubaiya Sayeed abduction case is set for the following day.
Malik’s appearance via video-link from Tihar jail underscores the continuing legal proceedings against prominent figures in the Kashmiri separatist movement. These cases continue to attract attention due to their historical significance and their impact on the current political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.
