World Bank to Fund New Development Initiatives in Sindh Worth $450 Million

Karachi: Provincial Minister for Development and Planning Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, announced a series of new development projects in Sindh, supported by a $450 million commitment from the World Bank. The disclosure came during a high-level meeting at the Development and Planning Department in Karachi, which also involved Najam Ahmad Shah, Chairman of the Planning and Development (PND), among other officials.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, while the World Bank initially pledged $450 million for these projects, only $200 million has been disbursed so far. Minister Shah emphasized the need to expedite the commencement of these development schemes and expressed optimism about securing the remaining funds promptly, citing the World Bank’s satisfaction with the progress of existing projects and their commendation of the Sindh government’s initiatives.

The new development schemes, focusing on irrigation, water rescue, and road infrastructure, aim to enhance the province’s public services. The minister also highlighted the special interest of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto in these projects, underlining the urgency of initiating them swiftly with the World Bank’s support.
