Islamabad, November 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):World Bank South Asia Regional Director for Infrastructure, Mr. Guanghze Chen along with senior level World Bank officers called on Federal Minister Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi in his office in Islamabad today. Mr. Rizwan Ahmed, Secretary Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Mr. Zahid Masood, Joint Secretary were also present. Matters of mutual interest were discussed.
Mr. Chen offered help to improve the efficiency of the ports and logistics from World Bank. Minister agreed on improving the efficiency of the ports and identified key areas where World Bank’s support could be of great help. While sharing his vision for Blue Economy, Minister apprised Mr. Chen about the growth challenges that Pakistan faces and the work that is being done.
He thanked the support offered by World Bank. Minister Zaidi also discussed the importance of CPEC in the region, connecting the Central Asian Republics to Pakistani ports, giving them access to huge markets. He believed Pakistan is on the road to become a Maritime Power and the partnership with China plays a pivotal role in achieving that goal. Mr. Chen agreed with the potential CPEC brings to the Maritime Sector in Pakistan and emphasized on ensuring to capitalize on the infrastructure development that comes with CPEC.
