Karachi: A $137 million project funded by the World Bank aims to bolster the livestock sector in Sindh, as announced by officials at the closing ceremony of the Sindh Livestock Expo. Provincial Minister for Energy, Development and Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, highlighted the province’s commendable performance in public-private partnerships and underscored the project’s significance under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

According to a statement by Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), the expo facilitated interaction among farmers, breeders, and investors, offering them a platform to collaborate. The event, attended by over a million people, showcased the potential of public-private partnerships in promoting local breeding breeds on government farms and land.

Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah reflected on the shifting dynamics of Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors since 1947, noting the growing prominence of livestock. He emphasized the need for a dual approach to breeding, highlighting the importance of preserving indigenous breeds like the Red Sindhi cow through public-private partnerships.

Provincial Minister for Livestock Muhammad Ali Malkani expressed gratitude towards his colleagues and urged for increased prioritization of the livestock sector in planning and development. Malkani noted the expo’s success in drawing farmers from remote areas of Sindh and providing them with resources to exhibit rare and indigenous animals, thus unlocking numerous investment opportunities.
