Islamabad, The World Bank has allocated $149.7 million to fund two pivotal projects in Pakistan, aimed at advancing the nation’s digital infrastructure and enhancing its flood defense systems. This significant financial endorsement underscores a strategic initiative to promote sustainable development and resilience in key sectors of the Pakistani economy.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors sanctioned the allocation to bolster Pakistan’s digital and environmental fortitude. The Digital Economy Enhancement Project, receiving $78 million, is designed to broaden the scope and efficiency of digital public services, enhancing the accessibility and quality of online services for individuals and businesses across the country.

Simultaneously, the World Bank’s commitment includes substantial support for the Sindh Barrages Improvement Project, with an investment aimed at fortifying flood resilience. This initiative will focus on improving the operational reliability, safety, and management of Sindh’s barrage systems, crucial for mitigating the impacts of flood-related disasters and ensuring sustainable water management in the region.

These projects represent a strategic collaboration between Pakistan and the World Bank, focusing on leveraging technological advancement and environmental planning to foster a more resilient and progressive Pakistan.

Islamabad, In a significant gesture of appreciation and recognition, the President of Pakistan has awarded the Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam (Civil) to Samantha Power, the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on the occasion of Pakistan’s National Day. This prestigious award is in acknowledgment of Power’s remarkable efforts in bolstering Pakistan-U.S. relations, particularly through her advocacy for enhanced cooperation in humanitarian aid, socio-economic development, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Power has been a vocal advocate for strengthening ties between Pakistan and the United States, focusing on critical sectors such as health, education, and climate change. In her video message expressing gratitude for the award, Power emphasized the profound partnership between USAID and the Pakistani community. She detailed the concerted support from the U.S. government, which resulted in $215 million in assistance for the flood victims in Pakistan, alongside an additional $37 million raised through private donations from American citizens and corporations.



Power also outlined USAID’s ongoing mission in Pakistan, which includes initiatives to improve water management systems, foster markets for Climate Smart Agriculture, and mobilize climate adaptation finance through the US-Pakistan Green Alliance initiative. Her work exemplifies a deep commitment to the welfare of the Pakistani people and the strengthening of bilateral relations through tangible, impactful projects.



Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan lauded Power’s contributions, stating that she is a true friend to the people of Pakistan. Khan highlighted the indelible mark Power has left through her humanitarian efforts, especially during times of dire need, underscoring the gratitude and respect Pakistan holds for her dedication and service.
