Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah convened with a World Bank delegation led by Country Director Mr. Naji Benhasin to discuss ongoing and upcoming development projects under Sindh’s substantial $3.124 billion portfolio. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s House, reviewed crucial projects across various sectors including water management, infrastructure, and education.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the portfolio comprises 13 active development projects with $1.36 billion already disbursed by the World Bank. Key initiatives like the Karachi Mobility Project, Sindh Flood Emergency Recovery Project, and Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project were highlighted. The discussions focused on the substantial progress and the strategic importance of these projects in enhancing the quality of life for Sindh’s residents.
The Sindh Flood Emergency Recovery Project aims to bolster the region’s capacity to handle climate disasters by improving infrastructure and creating employment opportunities in flood-prone areas. Meanwhile, the Karachi Mobility Project is making strides in enhancing urban transport, with significant developments in the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit system set to improve traffic flow and safety. Additionally, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project is on track with its goal to significantly enhance clean water delivery in Karachi.
Other projects like the Sindh Solar Energy Project and the Sindh Early Learning Enhancement through Classroom Transformation are set to transform the energy landscape and educational framework in the province. These initiatives are part of a broader effort by the Sindh government and the World Bank to strengthen infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and prepare the province to face future challenges such as climate change and natural disasters.
