World Bank and Pakistan Focus on Reforming Development Projects


Islamabad, In a significant meeting held on Friday, World Bank’s Global Director for Governance, Arturo Herrera Gutierrez, met with Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, to discuss innovative reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency of development projects within the country.



According to Press Information Department, Minister Ahsan Iqbal conveyed to the World Bank official that the current administration is dedicated to modernizing development processes through the adoption of modern technology and methodologies. The minister emphasized the government’s efforts to ensure transparency by making all project details accessible online and highlighted the installation of a geographic information system to monitor the progress of various projects.



During the dialogue, Minister Iqbal remarked on the integration of experts from diverse sectors into the review processes of projects, which has significantly propelled the projects towards their intended goals and timelines. He pointed out the successful resource utilization strategies that have allowed Pakistan to save approximately Rs 7 billion from 2013 to 2018.



Furthermore, Minister Iqbal shared insights into the structural enhancements within the Planning Ministry, which has been operating autonomously as a think tank since 2013, prioritizing and triaging development initiatives effectively. He noted that the development budget has tripled since 2013, showcasing the government’s strong commitment to national progress.



This meeting underlines a mutual commitment between Pakistan and the World Bank to foster a collaborative environment that supports substantial and sustainable development, aimed at improving the overall economic landscape of the country.
