Islamabad: A delegation from the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation has pledged support for the modernization of Pakistan Railways during discussions with Bilal Azhar Kayani, the Minister of State for Railways. This move aligns with the government’s priority to improve travel services and boost economic growth.
The delegation, led by World Bank Regional Director Pankaj Gupta, included key officials such as World Bank Program Leader Muhammad Anis and IFC Country Principal Officer Naz Khan. They expressed enthusiasm for proposed reforms that aim to upgrade railway infrastructure and services.
Minister Kayani highlighted the importance of these reforms as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s agenda. He noted that modernizing the railways is essential for enhancing travel quality and contributing to national economic development.
In the meeting, the World Bank and IFC representatives outlined proposals to advance the railway sector’s infrastructure. Both parties agreed to intensify their cooperation to ensure these initiatives are implemented effectively.
