Islamabad: The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) convened its 7th Working Council meeting at the Parliament House, chaired by Secretary Dr. Shahida Rehmani. The meeting, attended by several members of the WPC and the Convenor of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, focused on outlining key activities for the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.
The council discussed a series of initiatives aimed at raising public awareness about gender-based violence and women’s rights. These initiatives include launching a digital awareness campaign on social media platforms, organizing a roundtable discussion with parliamentarians and civil society organizations to address legislative gaps in preventing gender-based violence, and conducting regional seminars on women’s inheritance rights. Additionally, there are plans to draft recommendations for constitutional amendments to strengthen women’s inheritance rights.
Dr. Rehmani emphasized the importance of effective implementation of laws related to gender equality and women’s rights. She highlighted the WPC’s commitment to ensuring that promises of legislative reform are translated into tangible progress through awareness and oversight.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to work closely with provincial legislatures and civil society partners to ensure widespread participation and impact of the planned campaign.
