Women empowerment imperative for country’s development: Begum Samina Alvi 

Islamabad, December 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ascend Athletics Pakistan program was launched in Islamabad on Saturday to promote leadership development through sports and civic engagement. Under the program 60 girls would be trained next summer in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan in mountaineering and climbing, leadership, mental health, public service, and physical fitness in general.

First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi who was chief guest on the occasion appreciated the program hoping that it will have a positive impact on women’s health, besides enabling girls to become useful and active citizens of the society. She said women empowerment is imperative for development of the country.

Highlighting the severity of problem of malnutrition and children stunting in Pakistan’s flood affected areas, she emphasized the need to take effective steps to overcome the issue of stunting and malnutrition. Minister for Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Nasir Ali Khan said the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan possess immense talent which can be harnessed by developing collaborations and strengthening institutions. He said more projects in mountaineering and rock climbing will be initiated in GB to promote adventure sports. The event was attended by renowned mountaineers and climbers of Pakistan.
