Pune: A 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside a state transport bus at Swargate bus station in Pune, with the suspect evading capture, police reported.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the assault occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering a manhunt for the perpetrator by multiple police units.

In response to the incident, opposition leaders have criticized the Home Department, led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, for the lapse in security. The government has since announced the replacement of private security personnel at the station.

This incident has prompted calls for enhanced security protocols and accountability from authorities to protect women in public spaces.
