WIPO Commits to Support Women Empowerment and SMEs in Pakistan

Islamabad, The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has pledged its support to Pakistan in empowering women and promoting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, this commitment was stated by Hasan KLEIB, Deputy Director General of WIPO, during the event “WIPO’s Project of Intellectual Property and Women Enterprises in Embroidery and Related Craft Businesses” in Islamabad. He emphasized WIPO’s focus on new SME projects for women, with ongoing initiatives in Multan and Bahawalpur.

KLEIB noted that the SME sector contributes thirty percent to Pakistan’s GDP. He assured that WIPO would continue to aid IPO Pakistan in the economic transformation of the country.

Farrukh Amil, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan), also spoke at the event, affirming the organization’s dedication to collaborating with WIPO. This partnership aims to empower women in the embroidery and handicraft sector and to raise awareness about intellectual property rights. Amil highlighted the untapped potential of millions of talented Pakistanis whose creativity and innovation remain unrecognized and unrewarded financially.

This cooperation between WIPO and IPO-Pakistan marks a significant step towards harnessing the creative potential of Pakistani women and SMEs, contributing to the country’s economic growth.
