Widespread Strike in IIOJK Marks Indian Republic Day Amidst Tight Security

Srinagar, A complete strike is being observed today in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as a form of protest against Indian Republic Day, January 26. The shutdown reflects the region’s ongoing resistance to Indian rule and claims of democracy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the strike is intended to demonstrate to the international community the contradiction between India’s self-professed democratic status and its denial of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. In Srinagar and other towns across the region, shops and business centers remain closed, and there is minimal traffic on the roads.

In response to the strike and potential anti-India demonstrations, Indian security forces have ramped up their presence across the valley. Large contingents of forces are stationed around venues hosting Republic Day functions.

Police and paramilitary personnel are deployed heavily in the city and other district headquarters. Several checkpoints have been set up, particularly at entry points to Srinagar and other districts. Additionally, Indian forces are conducting random vehicle checks and frisking people in the name of security.

This heightened security presence underscores the ongoing tension and conflict in IIOJK. The complete strike serves as a stark reminder of the region’s persistent quest for self-determination and the continuous struggle against Indian governance.
