Widespread Corruption Alleged in Indian Army: Report

New Delhi: A recent report has accused the Indian Army of becoming a “hotbed of corruption,” with high-ranking officers allegedly engaged in serious financial misconduct, including embezzlement and arms trafficking.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report reveals that numerous army officers, from generals to majors, have been implicated in corruption cases. It highlights that officers above the rank of colonel have used their positions to misappropriate funds.

The report, covering incidents from 2000 to 2023, cites over 1,800 corruption cases within the army, including the illegal sale of firearms such as 9mm guns and bolt-action rifles. Additionally, a CBI report found 17 military officers guilty of accepting bribes for recruitment purposes, and three Air Marshals from the Indian Air Force were court-martialed in a corruption scandal involving $20 billion.
