Kolkata: Junior doctors in West Bengal, protesting on Wednesday night against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, voiced concerns that the former principal, Sandip Ghosh, may evade punishment due to what they perceive as an inadequate investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the lopsided investigation by CBI has raised concerns among the junior doctors and the victim’s parents that Sandip Ghosh might ultimately escape punishment in the rape and murder case, said Debasis Halder, a representative of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF) and a leading figure in the protest movement.
The junior doctors, along with members of the public, organized a torch rally in Kolkata, demanding justice for the junior doctor who was killed at R.G. Kar on August 9.
Representatives from the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum and various civil society organizations led a procession from the West Bengal Medical Council’s office in Salt Lake’s Sector 3 to the CBI’s office at the CGO Complex in Sector 1.
The protestors chanted slogans such as ‘We want justice’, urging the CBI to expedite its investigation into the case.
