Webinar Marks 3rd Martyrdom Anniversary of Kashmiri Leader Ashraf Sehrai

Islamabad, The third martyrdom anniversary of senior APHC leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was commemorated through a webinar organized by Friends of Kashmir International and Kashmir Media Service, focusing on his life, custodial killing, and the broader struggle for Kashmir’s liberation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speakers at the webinar highlighted the significant sacrifices made by Sehrai, who died in Indian police custody in 2021, and his son, who was killed by Indian forces. The speakers emphasized Sehrai’s role as a beacon for the Kashmiri liberation movement and criticized the Indian authorities for their treatment of him during his detention.

Shaista Safi of the Youth Forum London called Sehrai’s death a motivating force for the Kashmiri people’s ongoing resistance against Indian rule. Dr. Shazia Anwar of Charles University pointed out the importance of using modern technology to expose the realities of the Kashmir conflict and counter India’s narrative.

Pervaiz Ahmed Shah, a Hurriyat Conference advocate, lamented the UN’s failure to enforce its resolutions on Kashmir, terming the issue a recognized international conflict, not merely a territorial dispute.

Further contributions from Ghazala Habib, Abdul Hameed Lone, and Ali Raza Syed outlined ongoing efforts to engage international lawmakers and activists to bring global attention to the Kashmiri plight.

The session served as a platform not only to remember Sehrai’s legacy but also to reaffirm the Kashmiri commitment to pursuing their right to self-determination.
