Weather Alert: Rain and Thunderstorms to Affect Upper and Central Pakistan from September 26

Islamabad: The National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued a weather alert predicting rain and thunderstorms across upper and central regions of Pakistan from September 26 to October 1, 2024. Moist currents from the Bay of Bengal will penetrate the upper parts of the country starting September 25, compounded by a westerly wave expected on September 26.

According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, significant rainfall is anticipated in various districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, and Swat, starting the evening of September 26. The Punjab region, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, will experience similar conditions, with isolated heavy falls likely in Murree and Galliyat. In Kashmir, weather disturbances will occur from September 26 to October 2, affecting areas such as Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad.

While Balochistan remains hot and dry, isolated rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for Mirpurkhas and Tharparker in Sindh from September 26 to 28. The upcoming weather systems may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities like Lahore and Gujranwala and potentially disrupt roads due to landslides in vulnerable points of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre also highlighted potential risks, including increased flow in local streams, potential damage to weak structures from windstorms and lightning, and advised farmers and travelers to adjust their activities and travel plans accordingly.
