Srinagar: A severe shortage of potable drinking water is affecting the Kashmir Valley, exacerbated by the ongoing drying up of surface water sources during an extended dry period.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department of Kashmir has confirmed that the water scarcity is particularly severe in parts of north Kashmir and Srinagar. Vivek Kohli, the Chief Engineer of PHE, Kashmir, reported to the media that specific areas, including regions of Sopore and Kupwara, are suffering due to the depletion of natural water resources.
In response to the crisis, the PHE department has begun implementing water supply shifts in several districts of Srinagar to manage the acute shortages facing the city.
