Water Crisis Grips Uri Village Amid Authority Inaction

Srinagar: Residents of a village in the Uri area of Baramulla, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, face an acute shortage of drinking water due to the ongoing neglect by local authorities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the people of Garkote village have endured weeks without sufficient potable water, sparking widespread frustration and feelings of helplessness among the community.

Locals report significant issues with their water supply, with many experiencing low pressure or completely dry taps. “There is a severe water crisis in our village,” a community spokesperson stated, highlighting the desperate situation.

Reyaz Ahmad, a village resident, pointed out that the existing water pipeline, over forty years old, is corroded and frequently blocked, further reducing water flow. Residents criticized the Water Department’s lack of maintenance and infrequent visits, which they say exacerbates their struggles. “They don’t carry out regular maintenance,” locals complained, underscoring the neglect of essential services.

The community urgently calls for immediate actions to address the dire water shortage and restore reliable access to clean drinking water.
