Lahore: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has entered into a significant contract for the implementation of a telemetry system across the Indus Basin, aimed at enhancing the monitoring of water discharge at various critical points. The contract, valued at Rs. 21.534 billion, covers the installation of the system at 27 key locations within the Indus Basin Irrigation System (IBIS), facilitating real-time discharge monitoring.
According to Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, the telemetry system will be installed by a joint venture (JV) that includes CDigital, HBCC, and Siemens as a subcontractor. The system is scheduled to be fully operational by December 2026. The agreement was inked by Waseem Ali, Chief Engineer and Project Director of the Indus Telemetry Project, and Muhammad Ahsan Bashir, CEO of CDigital, representing their respective organizations.
The signing ceremony, marking this milestone, was attended by notable figures including the Member IRSA (Punjab), WAPDA’s members responsible for Finance, Water, and Power, the General Manager (Hydro Resource Management), along with representatives from the 45 Engineering Division, consultants, and contractors involved in the project.
The Ministry of Water Resources has tasked WAPDA with this critical project as part of a broader initiative to address challenges in water distribution among the federating units. The approved PC-I of the Indus Telemetry Project totals Rs. 23.834 billion, underscoring the project’s scale and significance in improving the management of water resources in Pakistan.
