New Delhi, March 18, 2022 (PPI-OT): Bollywood filmmaker, Vivek Agnihotri, whose film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has stirred up a political controversy, was granted Y category security by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), today (Friday).
Quoting sources, English daily, the Indian Express reported that an assessment by the Intelligence Bureau has found that there is a threat to Agnihotri’s life. Reportedly, the decision was taken in the wake of opposition his film is facing from certain quarters and apprehensions that some communities may be hurt by his presentation of events that led to the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 90s.
Agnihotri will be a protectee under the Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). “An assessment by the Intelligence Bureau has found that there is a threat to his life. Based on the inputs, Y category security has been provided to him across the country,” an official of Indian home ministry said.
The movie is being actively pushed by the government with all BJP-ruled states either declaring the film tax-free or giving government employees special leave to watch the film. The Opposition, meanwhile, has called the film one-sided and too violent.
On the other hand, cinema halls screening controversial film have become hubs of jingoism where sundry Hindutva activists and anti-social elements are giving vent to their deep-seated hatred for Muslims. Video clips making rounds on social media show crowds in frenzy raising aggressive slogans against the Muslims. In the videos, crowds can be seen calling for genocide of Muslims with impunity.
The movie is fanning communal hatred by exaggerating claims on the violence against the Kashmiri Pandits who fled their homes when the Kashmiris intensified their indigenous freedom struggle against India’s illegal occupation in Jammu and Kashmir in 1989. The then Governor of IIOJK, Jagmohan Malhotra, had persuaded the Pandits to leave the Kashmir Valley so that he could punish the Muslims for demanding freedom from India.
