Lucknow, December 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Depicting yet another act of police brutality in India, a video has gone viral on social media where a police officer in Kanpur city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is seen brutally beating a woman in a room locked from inside. The video has sparked outrage among the public. It was shared on the Samajwadi Party’s Twitter account. The incident is believed to have taken place in Kakwan area of Kanpur.
In the video, people, who are outside the room, can be seen shouting at the policeman, asking him to open the door. The woman, meanwhile, is seen begging for help. “Why have you locked the door, what are doing to her?” people are heard shouting in the video. “He is beating me, torturing me,” says the woman from inside the room.
Meanwhile, as the policeman realises that his act is getting filmed, he says, “You people are not doing the right thing with police, whatever you doing is wrong.” The policeman while trying to defend his act still didn’t release the woman until the end of more than 2-minute-long video. The Samajwadi Party in a tweet slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government over the act. “Shameful act of Kanpur police. Every day, videos of Yogi Government’s police doing atrocities on citizens emerge, but the chief minister stays silent. Matter must be probed and action should be taken on the cop,” the tweet said.
