Violence Erupts in Uttarakhand Over Madrasa Demolition, Leading to Deaths and Injuries

Haldwani, A protest against the demolition of a madrasa in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani city turned violent, resulting in the deaths of at least four Muslims and injuries to over 260 individuals, as Indian forces responded with significant force.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the confrontation occurred in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani, where police and municipal workers were executing the demolition of the religious educational institution. In response to the escalating tensions, local authorities implemented a curfew and suspended internet services throughout the district to prevent further unrest.

The clash between the local population, gathered to oppose the demolition, and law enforcement officials intensified as the demolition process began. The use of brute force by the police against protesters led to a significant number of injuries, necessitating hospitalization for over 250 people.

The situation in Haldwani has become increasingly volatile, prompting the authorities to issue shoot-at-sight orders in an attempt to regain control. This drastic measure underscores the severity of the conflict and the government’s commitment to enforcing the demolition despite public opposition.

This incident has raised concerns about the treatment of religious minorities and the use of excessive force in managing civil protests, leading to a tense atmosphere in the region.
