VHP, BJP, Bajran Dal leaders behind 2002 Gujarat riots, says ex VC

Ahmadabad, June 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Indian businessman and former Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Zafar Sareshwala, has said that leaders of Hindutva parties were behind the 2002 Gujarat riots. Speaking exclusively to media in Ahmadabad, Gujarat, he said Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia, Bajrang Dal’s Babu Bajrangi, BJP’s Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya, Vishva Hindu Parishad’s Gordhan Zadafia and Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Jaydeep Patel were the main characters behind the anti-Muslim massacre.

Haren Pandya had led a mob that torched my house, a mosque in Vasna, but none of them were in the accused list prepared by Teesta and her NGO, Center for Justice and Peace (CJP). “He had raised these issues way back in 2002-03, said Zafar. He said some 1,600 innocent Muslims were killed, 1000 business premises were set on fire in Ahmadabad. However, Zafar Sareshwala faces criticism from some quarters for not mentioning the role of Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister who led the anti-Muslim pogrom.
