Karachi: The Uzma Karachi Metropolitan Cup 2024 commenced with four matches, bringing together 24 participating teams, including 23 town administration teams and a KMC team.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the tournament, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Municipality of Uzma Karachi, started with intense competition among local teams. In the opening matches, Malir Town defeated Korangi Town by a single goal, while Shah Faisal Town secured a 2-1 victory over Jinnah Town at Madhu Mohammedan Ground Gulshan Iqbal.
In another match, the KMC team triumphed over Ibrahim Hydari Town with a decisive 3-0 win at KM C Football Stadium. Additionally, the non-arrival of Gadap Town granted their opponents a walkover, resulting in three goals and three points being awarded. The tournament features substantial prizes, with the winning team set to receive Rs 10 lakh and a trophy, the second-place team Rs 5 lakh, and the third-place team Rs 2.5 lakh.
To ensure the tournament meets international standards, referees and technical staff approved by FIFA have been appointed, and consultation with ex-footballers and experts has been incorporated. Organizers have also provided team kits for the participating towns, aiming to deliver an exceptional football experience for fans.
