Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, H.E. Dr. Jamshid Khodjaev Abdukhakomovich, leading a seven-member delegation, met with Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. The meeting aimed to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in trade, defense, and connectivity.
According to Press Information Department (PID), Prime Minister Kakar recalled his recent meeting with the President of Uzbekistan at the 16th ECO Summit in Tashkent and expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral engagements. He highlighted the successful conduct of the First Trilateral Meeting of Commerce Ministers from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan in Islamabad, which established a trilateral working group to address issues related to customs, logistics, and trade.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in people-to-people exchanges and highlighted initiatives like easy visa procedures, improved banking channels, and reciprocal warehousing facilities as key to boosting bilateral trade. He expressed optimism about achieving a bilateral trade target of US$ 1 billion soon.
Deputy Prime Minister Khodjaev expressed gratitude for the hospitality received and briefed about his productive interactions with the Pakistani business community, focusing on banking and logistics sectors. He also underscored the importance of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Project and hoped for its timely completion.
The meeting was also attended by high-level officials from both countries, including Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Deputy Foreign Minister, Deputy Chairman of State Security Service, and the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Islamabad. From Pakistan’s side, the Minister of Commerce and other senior officials were present.
This meeting marks a crucial step in enhancing the relationship between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, focusing on increased trade and regional connectivity.
