US President Biden Declines Invitation to India’s Republic Day, Citing Diplomatic Tensions

Washington, In a significant diplomatic setback for India, US President Joe Biden will not be attending the country’s Republic Day ceremony as the chief guest next month. This decision comes amid growing concerns over India’s recent foreign policy moves.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended an invitation to President Biden for a state visit to New Delhi to attend the Republic Day celebrations and the Quad Summit. However, the US government has informed India that President Biden will not be participating in either event in January.

The Quad Summit, a strategic dialogue between Australia, India, Japan, and the US, aims to enhance diplomatic relations among these nations. The summit, which has previously experienced delays in India, is now facing another setback with the absence of the US President. Despite planning to host the summit in May this year, the event was postponed, and the January 2024 date is now in question.

The recent development is seen as a repercussion of the policies implemented by the Narendra Modi-led government in India. The country’s diplomatic relations have been strained, first with Canada and now with the US, following revelations about Indian agencies’ alleged plans to assassinate Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.

President Biden’s decision not to attend India’s Republic Day and the Quad Summit is reportedly influenced by New Delhi’s alleged involvement in plots against Sikh leaders in the West. India is reportedly making efforts to mend its diplomatic relations with the US in the wake of these controversies.

This latest diplomatic snub follows the perceived failure of the G20 Summit hosted by India. The cancellation of President Biden’s visit and his non-participation in the upcoming Quad Summit are viewed as significant blows to India’s foreign policy efforts.
