Islamabad: Pakistan has condemned the recent United States strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, asserting that these actions, which follow a series of attacks by Israel, could exacerbate regional tensions.
In a statement from Islamabad, Shafqat Ali Khan, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed grave concern about the potential for escalating tensions across the region. He emphasized that the attacks contravene international law and affirmed Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter.
Khan noted the unprecedented escalation in violence and tensions due to ongoing aggression against Iran, cautioning that further escalation could have damaging implications not just for the region but globally.
He called for the protection of civilian lives and properties, urging an immediate cessation of the conflict. Khan underscored the necessity for all parties involved to adhere to international law, especially international humanitarian law.
The spokesperson concluded by advocating for dialogue and diplomacy, aligning with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, as the only viable means to resolve the ongoing crises in the region.
