Urs of Hamdani celebrated with gusto in IIOJK

Srinagar, July 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the 656th Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in Srinagar and other parts of the territory on Saturday. A large number of devotees, including women, participated in the Urs, celebrated on sixth day of Zil Haj every year, at the shrine of Hazrat Hamdani, known also as Amir-i-Kabir at Khankha-e-Muala on the banks of Jehlum River in downtown area of Srinagar.

Though the number of devotees was less at “Fajr” (morning prayers), but heavy rush was witnessed at (Zuhar). The shrine remains closed for devotees for the past over two months when there was sudden increase in the COVID positive cases. No Friday prayers were also allowed yesterday also in the shrine.

People, including women and children, from different parts of the city participated in the Zuhr prayers, today. Vendors have also set up their stalls outside the shrine, selling eatables and other items. The Urs celebrations were held after remaining suspended last year due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Similar Urs functions were also held in different parts of the valley, including Tral in Pulwama and Islamabad town. Born in Central Asia in 1314 CE, Mir Syed Hamdani traveled widely and preached Islam in different parts of the world, including Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, China, Syria and Turkestan before coming to Kashmir in 1372.
