Uraan Pakistan Initiative Aims for Economic Transformation, Says Minister

Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has articulated the vision behind the ‘Uraan Pakistan’ initiative, highlighting its potential to transform the nation’s economy. In a special meeting held in Islamabad, he discussed aligning sectoral priorities with this ambitious plan.

Ahsan Iqbal expressed confidence that through unlocking potential and fostering growth, Pakistan has the opportunity to become a one trillion-dollar economy by 2025. He emphasized that ‘Uraan Pakistan’ is not merely a program but a comprehensive national plan that seeks bold sectoral interventions.

The Minister noted that Pakistan has historically relied on consumption and imports but stressed the need to transition towards export-driven growth. He underlined the importance of inclusive growth, focusing on reducing poverty and promoting job creation, especially for the youth.

Ahsan Iqbal introduced ‘e-Pakistan’ as a pivotal component of the transformation strategy. This initiative aims to redefine the economic model by leveraging digital ecosystems in fin-tech, agri-tech, and green-tech sectors to generate employment and attract investment.

The Minister also highlighted efforts to position Pakistan as a regional IT hub, with policies supporting the development of artificial intelligence labs, digital finance, cybersecurity, and cloud infrastructure. These measures are designed to enhance the country’s competitive edge in the digital economy.
