UP police book 2000 Muslims in Kanpur for offering Eid prayers

Kanpur, April 28, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Indian police have booked over 2,000 unknown persons for offering Eid prayers on roads outside mosques in Indian Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state Uttar Pradesh. According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police have claimed that namaz was offered outside the mosques on April 22. “A case has been filed under several sections against the namazis and Eidgah (mosque) committee members. We are identifying the violators from CCTV footage. Further action will be taken,” a police statement said.

Angry with the police action, Mohammad Suleman, a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, told the media that they were being targeted on the basis of religion. He said that a few people offered Eid prayers on the road outside the Eidgah because they were late and there was no space left inside the premises.
