UNSC calls for talks to form a new govt in Afghanistan

Islamabad, August 17, 2021 (PPI-OT): The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has called for talks to form a new government in Afghanistan. In a statement, unanimously issued by a 15-member council after its emergency meeting on Afghanistan, it underlined the need of ending the fighting and abuse in Afghanistan. Speaking on the occasion, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that we must not abandon the Afghans as it is the time we should stand as one.

He stressed to use all means to suppress a global terrorist threat from Afghanistan and guarantee respect for human rights. Antonio Guterres asked the Taliban to respect international humanitarian law and the fundamental rights of the Afghans.
