Karachi: The Advanced Studies and Research Board of the University of Karachi has awarded a PhD degree to Ali Hassan Sajid, a writer and newscaster, for his research on the local government system in Karachi. Sajid’s doctoral work, supervised by Professor Dr. Shamsuddin, explored the evolution of Karachi’s local governance and the role of newspapers in this process.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, this achievement marks the first time a scholar has completed a PhD on this specific topic at the University of Karachi. Sajid, who holds an MPhil and MA in Journalism from the same university, is currently serving as the Senior Director of Media Management at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Sajid is a prolific author of several books on Karachi’s history and local governance, and has contributed numerous articles to newspapers and magazines. His career spans engagements with PTV as a newscaster and Radio Pakistan Karachi as a compère, starting in 1989.
Sajid’s contributions to literature and broadcasting have been recognized through multiple awards and honors. Prominent figures such as Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and other city officials have extended their congratulations to him for his academic accomplishment.
