Universal Service Fund Leads Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Islamabad

Islamabad: The Universal Service Fund (USF) organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at Fatima Jinnah Park, drawing attention to the critical importance of early detection and public education on breast cancer in Pakistan. The event featured influential speakers including USF CEO Chaudhry Mudassar Naveed and renowned oncologist Dr. Muhammad Farrukh, along with participation from government officials and citizens from diverse backgrounds.

According to Press Information Department, the walk emphasized actionable steps for combating breast cancer, highlighted by Joint Secretary MoITT Ms. Saima Ahad’s call for mothers to discuss this vital health issue with their daughters. Ahad stressed the importance of regular check-ups and proactive health measures due to the hereditary nature of the disease. She also urged media outlets to help raise awareness, particularly in underserved rural areas, about the importance of self-examinations and professional screenings. CEO Mudassar Naveed reaffirmed USF’s commitment to supporting national health initiatives and stressed the role of early detection in saving lives. Dr. Farrukh addressed the medical aspects, urging monthly self-examinations and early professional screenings to improve cure rates. He also pointed out socio-cultural obstacles that delay timely treatment for women, advocating for societal changes to improve health outcomes.

The event, part of a broader campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aims to foster a more informed and health-conscious community by breaking down the stigmas and barriers associated with the disease.
