Islamabad, June 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): During a ceremony in Islamabad on June 21, the United States delivered two vehicles to the Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Donated by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), the vehicles will support Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s efforts to conduct counternarcotic field inspections for poppy reduction and monitor implementation of alternative crop projects in the Newly Merged Districts. U.S. Embassy’s INL Director Lori Antolinez handed over a ceremonial key to symbolize the partnership.
Director Antolinez recognized the collaboration between the United States and Pakistan, saying “I am hopeful that this collaborative assistance will help Pakistan counter illegal crops while also promoting the development of profitable, legal crop production of numerous types of vegetables and flowers. Under the U.S.-Pakistan Green Alliance framework, we are advancing cooperation in agriculture, clean energy, and water. The United States is committed to support Pakistan as it strengthens climate resilience, pursues energy transformation, and fosters inclusive economic growth.” Director Antolinez also highlighted the 76 years of partnership between the United States and Pakistan.
For more than four decades, the U.S. Government, through INL, has invested more than $1 billion dollars to improve citizens’ security and enhance law enforcement capacity across Pakistan. INL works in more than 80 countries to help combat crime and corruption, counter the narcotics trade, improve police institutions, and advance fair and accountable court systems.
