UNICEF Report Details Flood Impact on Pakistani Schools Extensive Damage and Displacement Noted

Islamabad: The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has released its latest update on the Education Sector Working Group (ESWG) Flood Recovery Dashboard as of August 31, 2024, outlining significant damages to schools across Pakistan due to recent monsoon flooding.

According to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, the report highlights extensive damage in Punjab and Sindh, with Punjab reporting 358 damaged schools affecting over 45,000 children, and Sindh facing the most severe impact with 1,529 schools damaged, affecting approximately 231,000 children. In total, the floods have affected nearly 276,036 children across the country, disrupting their education and daily lives.

The ESWG dashboard also reports ongoing recovery efforts, including the rehabilitation of 1,941 schools and the construction of 443 Temporary School Structures (TSS). These efforts are part of a broader response and pledges to rehabilitate and rebuild the educational infrastructure, with a significant focus on the hardest-hit provinces of Punjab and Sindh.
