Peshawar, The UNICEF Regional Director for South Asia, Sanjay Wijesekara, led a delegation meeting with the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, to discuss ongoing cooperation in various sectors.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting in Peshawar focused on enhancing services in child protection, education, and health.
The Chief Secretary expressed gratitude for UNICEF’s consistent support to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, particularly in times of adversity. He emphasized the government’s commitment to service improvement, highlighting the need for UNICEF’s assistance in establishing child protection units across the province. Enhancing primary and secondary education, especially for girls, and increasing teacher capacity were also discussed as priorities.
A key focus of the meeting was on introducing technical education for youth, aiming to educate and equip them with necessary skills. The Chief Secretary commended UNICEF’s significant contributions in the health sector, notably in nutrition, immunization, and the anti-polio drive.
Sanjay Wijesekara acknowledged the efforts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in these critical areas and reassured continued support from UNICEF in health, education, child protection, and other relevant sectors.
The meeting, which also included caretaker provincial ministers, administrative secretaries, and other officials, highlighted a mutual commitment to further strengthening collaboration for the welfare of children and youth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
