Islamabad, The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has condemned a recent attack on a girls’ school in Shiwah Tehsil, North Waziristan, labeling the act as detrimental to the education and future prospects of young girls in the region. The attack, which involved explosives, severely damaged the only girls’ school in the area.
According to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, the attack comes at a time when Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has declared an education emergency aimed at enrolling millions of out-of-school children across Pakistan. UNICEF’s representative in Pakistan, Abdullah Fadil, emphasized that such acts of violence against educational institutions are significant setbacks to national progress, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
Fadil stressed the importance of maintaining schools as safe zones for learning to ensure the healthy development of all children and adolescents. UNICEF, along with other development partners, remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to provide universal education to all children, regardless of gender.
