UNFPA Delegation Discusses Maternal Health Initiatives with Balochistan Chief Minister

Quetta, A delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), led by Dr. Rababa Khan Bilidi, Advisor for Women Development, met with the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, to discuss ongoing health initiatives in the region. The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on addressing the high rates of maternal and child mortality during pregnancy in Balochistan.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the UNFPA delegation, including Luoy Shabane, briefed Chief Minister Bugti on the critical health challenges facing the province. The delegation highlighted the need for robust measures to improve maternal health and reduce mortality rates, emphasizing the collaboration between UNFPA, local non-governmental organizations, and the Balochistan government.

The discussion also covered strategies for enhancing health services through public-private partnerships, aiming to ensure the availability of quality healthcare facilities across the province. The UNFPA team expressed optimism about the continued support from the Balochistan government, stressing the importance of joint efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to population management.

Dr. Sarmad Saeed, also present at the meeting, supported the dialogue on improving healthcare outcomes for mothers and children in Balochistan. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to intensify efforts to combat maternal and child mortality and to work towards balancing the population growth in line with global health standards.
