UNESCO and Manipal Academy Host Dialogue on Rediscovering Humanity

NEW DELHI, UNESCO New Delhi, in collaboration with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), hosted a regional dialogue titled “Rediscovering Humanity in the Present World” on November 9, 2023. The event took place at T. M. A. Pai Auditorium, MAHE, Manipal, Karnataka, and coincided with a high-level UNESCO segment in Paris.

According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the dialogue contextualized discussions around peace and shared humanity within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework. Prof. M. D. Nalapat, UNESCO Chair for the Promotion of the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, chaired the event.

Participants included students, changemakers, academicians, and development experts. The session opened with Maithreem Bhajatha by Bharat Ratna Smt. MS Subbulakshmi Amma to inspire embracement of humanity. Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of MAHE, and Ms. Sarita Jadav, National Programme Officer, UNESCO New Delhi, addressed the inaugural session.

The panel discussion covered topics like peace, education’s power, Gandhian peace ideas, international roles in peacebuilding, and the impacts of technology and media. A poster exhibition by MAHE students complemented the dialogue, focusing on themes of humanity, sustainable development, and UNESCO’s work.

The event included a live broadcast of the “Thinking Commons, Acting Together” high-level segment from Paris. UNESCO New Delhi aims to promote, preserve, and advance humanity, emphasizing knowledge sharing and foresight for peace and prosperity.
