UNESCO Adopts Pakistan-Led Resolution on Disinformation and Freedom of Expression

Paris: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has unanimously adopted a Pakistan-led resolution aimed at countering disinformation while promoting and protecting freedom of expression and access to information.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the resolution, titled “Countering Disinformation for the Promotion and Protection of Freedom of Expression and Access to Information,” was co-sponsored by more than 50 member states and passed during UNESCO’s 220th Executive Board Session in Paris.

Pakistan’s Permanent Delegate, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed gratitude to the member states for their contributions and support, which led to the consensus adoption of the resolution. The initiative was proposed in response to the global rise of disinformation, misinformation, and hate speech, underscoring the need for stronger efforts to safeguard information access and free expression.
