Islamabad, July 18, 2023 (PPI-OT): A meeting was held under the chairmanship of federal minister for law and justice senator Azam Nazir Tarar regarding the formulation of Power Generation Policy for Gilgit Baltistan. All the relevant stakeholders were present in the meeting. Participants of the meeting included federal minister for Power Khurram Dastagir Khan, Advisor to Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Mr. Qamar Zaman Qaira, Secretary Water and Power Gilgit Baltistan, Secretary Kashmir Affairs, and Secretary Law and Justice Division. Participants engaged in an in-depth discussion regarding the power generation policy for GB.

Participants of the meeting gave their valuable suggestions to overcome the demand and supply gap which currently Gilgit Baltistan region is facing. Members of the meeting agreed on the fact that a clear policy is needed in this regard. The use of alternate energy resources in order to overcome the sufferings of the people of GB as an option was deliberated upon. Initiation of small projects and internal connectivity through transmission lines by GB Government was emphasized. The honorable Law Minister assured of full support and cooperation of the federal Government where needed. That under the directions of the Prime Minister, the Federal Government will facilitate the GB Government to devise a way forward in order to meet the power deficiency in every possible way.
