New York, Marking the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, the United Nations Secretary-General emphasized the essential role of multilateral approaches and diplomacy in addressing global challenges and fostering a peaceful, prosperous future for all.
According to United Nations Pakistan, in his message, the Secretary-General stressed that no single country can tackle the complexities of modern issues such as climate change, conflicts, and inequality alone. He highlighted that multilateral dialogue and cooperation, foundational to the United Nations Charter, remain the most reliable means to achieve a just and peaceful world.
The Secretary-General also noted significant current barriers to effective multilateralism, including increasing global conflicts and competition that overshadow collaborative efforts and dialogue. He pointed out that the multilateral system was specifically designed for these challenging times, underlining the urgency to rejuvenate global cooperation and trust.
Looking ahead, he pinpointed the upcoming Summit of the Future in September as a pivotal moment for nations to come together to propose and share solutions. The summit aims to introduce a New Agenda for Peace that addresses various conflict drivers holistically, aiming to restore faith in the multilateral system and the potential of unified efforts.
On this significant day, the Secretary-General called on global leaders and governments to intensify efforts to mend divisions, rekindle dialogue, and commit to delivering a peaceful and stable future.
