Karachi: A recent UN monitoring report has identified Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as the largest terrorist group operating out of Afghanistan, using the territory to stage attacks against Pakistan. The findings were part of the 15th report submitted by the United Nations team responsible for monitoring TTP alongside other groups like Daesh and Al-Qaeda.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the report detailed how TTP has not only used Afghan soil for its operations but also received operational and logistical support from networks such as Al-Qaeda. The report estimates that there are between 6,000 to 6,500 TTP fighters in Afghanistan, who operate with the backing of the Afghan Taliban.
The findings highlight significant concerns about the security implications for Pakistan and the challenges posed by the unchecked activities of terrorist groups in the region.
