Islamabad: The International Day of UN Peacekeepers is being observed today, focusing on the role of United Nations peacekeeping forces in maintaining global peace.
This day serves to commemorate the United Nations’ efforts to alleviate human suffering by fostering lasting peace in regions plagued by wars and internal conflicts. The initiative underlines the significance of peacekeeping operations in stabilizing societies and supporting the transition to sustainable peace.
Pakistan plays a significant role in these international efforts, with more than 2,800 of its military and police personnel currently deployed in UN peacekeeping missions across African countries. This contribution places Pakistan as the fifth-largest provider of uniformed personnel to these operations.
The observance of this day highlights the ongoing commitment of peacekeepers worldwide who work under challenging conditions to protect civilians and support peace processes. The valor and dedication of these personnel continue to be recognized and appreciated globally.
