Srinagar: Leaders and organizations from the Hurriyat in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have called for immediate United Nations intervention to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute, citing significant threats to both regional and global peace. The demands highlight ongoing concerns regarding India’s policies in the region, which are seen as exacerbating tensions and undermining international legal norms.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the leaders issued their statements in Srinagar, stressing that the UN has a duty to fulfill its commitments towards ensuring the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. This plea for action is in direct response to what they describe as aggressive policies by the Modi regime aimed at altering the demographic makeup of the territory, the systematic killings of Kashmiris by Indian troops, and the ongoing disregard for UN resolutions pertaining to the Kashmir issue.
The representatives argue that India’s actions on August 5, 2019, when it revoked the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, blatantly violated UN resolutions and showcased a clear disrespect for international law. These actions, they claim, not only destabilize the region but also pose a broader threat to international peace and security, necessitating a robust response from global institutions.
